Kuala Lumpur, 2 September – KL City Opera proudly presents Ravel 150, a spectacular double-bill performance in celebration of the 150th anniversary of French composer Maurice Ravel. The production will take place on 15 & 16 November 2025 at Nero Event Hall, PJPAC, featuring an extraordinary combination of his iconic piano works and his enchanting opera L’enfant et les sortilèges (The Child and the Spells).
This production is supported by Yayasan Lim Yee Hoh, whose commitment to the arts helps make possible the staging of rare and significant works in Malaysia.
A Double Bill Presentation
Ravel 150 offers audiences an immersive journey into Ravel’s world of colour, imagination, and fantasy.
The evening begins with a 4-hands piano programme, featuring two of Ravel’s most brilliant works: Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose) and Rhapsodie Espagnole. Written originally for piano four hands, these works transport listeners from fairy-tale dreamscapes to the sensual rhythms and vibrant colours of Spain, showcasing the breadth of Ravel’s artistry.
The second half of the programme brings to life Ravel’s magical opera, L’enfant et les sortilèges (The Child and the Spells). With a witty libretto by Colette, the opera tells the story of a mischievous child who learns empathy and kindness after the objects and animals he mistreats come to life. Filled with humour, poignancy, and dazzling musical variety—from jazz to lyrical arias—the opera is a feast for the eyes and ears, rarely performed in Malaysia.
Together, the double bill offers a vivid portrait of Ravel’s genius, celebrating both his intimate piano writing and his dazzling theatrical imagination.
